PostSubject: Nintendo 3DS   Nintendo 3DS EmptyTue Mar 23, 2010 3:59 pm

That's right folks, a NEW handheld Nintendo console has finally been announced. Currently (and tenatively) named the Nintendo 3DS, this system will be the true successor to the DS. Here's the breakdown:

Thoughts? Personally, I'm stoked. I still have my OOOOLD DS phat from like 6 years ago, and I've been meaning to upgrade. I was considering getting the DSi, but now I'll wait until next year for this.

I don't understand at all how they can make stuff 3D without altering the user's vision somehow (i.e. glasses). I mean, the screen will still be a 2D surface, right? Right?

But whatever, if they manage it it'll be really damn exciting. Nintendo will dominate the handheld games market even more than they already do. Razz

The DSi just seemed kind of unnecessary to me. The DS lite did at first too but then a couple days ago I looked at my old phatty (I got a DS lite several months ago) and... well... it's pretty huge. But the DSi is roughly the same size and has no exclusive games so I just don't see the point. Kind of off-topic.

The surface of the screen is indeed still flat. It uses special tech that has different pixels visible to different eyes, giving the illusion of depth. It's not really that different from how normal 3-D glasses work.
